Sewing & Seam Work

Guiding two pieces of material through an industrial sewing machine at speed, keeping the seam allowance even around a curve, and stopping at exactly the right stitch is a fine motor task that takes years to master. Leather has to be skived, glued, and sometimes hammered before it goes under the needle. A seam that wanders by a millimeter shows on the finished shoe or bag.

We film at the machine with a head-mounted camera that shows the feed, the hands steering material from both sides, the knee lift and foot pedal timing, and the backstitch at the end. It also records thread changes, needle changes, and the test stitch on a scrap. For footwear, the footage includes closing uppers on a post-bed machine and stitching soles on a curved-needle machine. Fixed cameras on the line show posture and the flow of pieces between stations.

The adaptation happens continuously. The operator slows into a corner and speeds out of it. They lift the foot and pivot for a sharp turn. They feel the tension through the material and adjust the guide.

A typical sewing & seam work episode, cut into the steps your labels attach to.

Episodes are segmented per piece or per seam with steps labeled in plain language and tagged for success or failure, including seams that were unpicked and resewn. Hand, machine, and piece tracking can be added. Your pipeline gets the data in its native format, delivered to your own bucket.
