Egg Collection

Eggs are the classic fragile-object problem, except the objects are in straw, under a hen that may peck you, in a shed with low light and dust in the air. Collectors move fast because the job is large, and they almost never break anything. Learning that combination of speed and gentleness from demonstration is what this dataset is for.

In a floor-raised or free-range house the worker walks the nest boxes, lifts birds aside, picks eggs with a scooped hand, and sets them into flats in a specific orientation. In a cage or belt system the eggs arrive on a conveyor and the worker pulls cracked, dirty, or double-yolk eggs before packing. Both versions show up in our footage.

We film from a head camera and from fixed cameras along the nest line or belt, synchronized to the frame. Collection takes place across complete shifts in commercial egg farms. Workers are consented and paid, and the footage is cleared for commercial model training.

A typical egg collection episode, cut into the steps your labels attach to.

Episodes are cut at natural boundaries, for instance one nest box section or one full flat. Steps inside each episode have short labels and success or failure tags, and a cracked egg is tagged as a failure. Hand and object tracking can be included on request. Delivery is in your own schema to your own storage.
